National Digital Library
National Digital Library is the project of the two largest Czech libraries: National Library of the Czech and Moravian Library. It is funded by the Integrated Operational Programme of the EU € 255 million CZK (9.8 million EURO) and co-financed from the budget of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic with 45 million CZK(1.7 million EURO).
The project aims to build technical infrastructure for mass digitization of library documents from Bohemia and to start the actuall digitization process. In the scope of the project is also securing user friendly access to these documents and their long-term preservation.
The aim is to digitize 33 million pages of documents. Emerging infrastructure will enable the digitization and accessibility of all documents comprising the Czech national cultural heritage in the next 25 years. (1.2 million documents, some 310 millions of pages)
The project also includes archiving and long-term preservation of the content of Czech internet.
The preservation repository will contain 628 TB of data by 2014. The system for long-term archiving must ensure continuing readability of these data using the digital preservation standards and technologies.
